Purchasing Cards

Three purchasing cards that I research were:
  1. Visa
  2. Mastercard
  3. American Express
Purchasing cards are a great way to keep track of how money is spent.  With purchasing cards you can keep track of who is buying what,  A spending limit can be put on the cards. You can reduce operating costs. This is a great way to eliminate using a petty cash system.

The Visa Purchase card has a lot of advantages.

  • Visa Purchase can be used everywhere Visa credit cards are accepted
  • You can establish spending limits
  • Electronic transaction audit trail
  • Enhanced data for monitoring use of the card
  • Protect from fraud and misuse
  • To help with state of the art reports to assist with tax reporting
  • Access 24/7 customer care service with emergency cash and card replacement
Benefits

  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
  • Emergency Card Replacement and Emergency Cash Disbursement
  • Lost/Stolen Card Reporting
  • Travel and Emergency Assistance Services
  • Cardholder Inquiry Service

Organizing My Personal Records

When your organizing your personal records, there are three areas that are important.

  1. Findability
  2. Confidentiality
  3. Safety
Findability, making sure the record can be access easily and in a timely manner.
Confidentiality, making sure the record does not fall into the wrong hands. Making sure classified information stays that way.
Safety, making sure all stored information is not lost.

When storing my records, I find the safest place for my files.  When putting the records in the folders and labeling them, I always think of if I need this where would I look.  I use different colored labels, so that they all don't blend together.  The confidentiality of some of my records is important to me.  The more important records I keep in a safe.

When looking for a file folder that I cannot locate.  I do a process of elimination, think of other areas that item could be filed.

Why I need to update my filing system.  After reading this chapter, I find that there is room for improvement in my filing system.  I need to work on findability, finding the best place to put a file, where to file it.  I've always had my files in safe place.  The confidential files I have always kept locked away.  My main area to work on is organizational, including findability.

Google Drive

My experience is very limited in Google Drive.  I've only had the opportunity to use Google Drive once.  I used it for a survey that I created. From what I researched, I could use Google Drive as an Internet flash drive.  I hope to have more opportunities to explore the different options of Google Drive.

Strengthen written communication

The ways this chapter has helped me recognize how I can strengthen my written communication:
  • By using the 4 C's
    • Complete
    • Correct
    • Concise
    • Courteous
  • By using the 6 planning steps
    • Know your purpose or goal
    • Visualize/Analyze your reader
    • Choose your ideas (consider your tone)
    • Get your facts
    • Organize content
    • Write, revise, proofread, and rewrite
  • By using the correct approach for the right situation
    • Direct
      • Good news
    • Indirect
      • Bad news
    • Persuasive
      • Sales/special request
With these tools that I was given in this chapter I am hopeful I can improve my writing skills.  I have always had problems with english and writing. I need to proofread my work more.

Poor Customer Service

Recently I switched phone carriers from Verizon to AT&T.  When I went into the store to change carriers I was greeted promptly.  They were having problems with their system.  I was told they could not activate my number.  But my number was no longer on Verizon either.  I was told it would take about 5 days to activate my number.  Now I had no phone number, it was somewhere lost.  After about 4 hours, they gave me a loaner number.  They kept my sim card, which had all my contacts on it.  When I went in to complete the transaction I started 5 days earlier, my sim card was missing.  AT&T lost my 200 contacts, all they could say was sorry.  I was very displeased with them.  I was told that I would receive a credit on my bill.  I received my bill.  There was no credit, but there was a charge for an extra phone.  I still have not be able to resolve this matter.  My experience with AT&T as an external customer was displeasing.

Here are a few ways AT&T could of handled my situation better:
  • They should of not been careless with my sim card.
  • They should not of took so long to let me know that there was a problem with the system.
  • They should of followed up on making sure I had the appropriate credit on my account.
  • They should of noted that the phone number was on loan and not to be charged to the account.
I will stay with AT&T because I am under contract.  I hope the customer service will improve.

Future Leader

This chapter on leadership was very informative. This chapter states that not everyone can be a leader.  I've been in management before.  For seven years I ran an RV Park.  I was the operational manager.  During the seven years, I used a lot of the ideas that was in this chapter.  Being a leader you need to be open to suggestions of others.  A large part of the job is to guide the people under you.  When I was the operation manager of the RV Park, I did not ask my employees to do anything I would not do.  I would work along side of them and answer any questions.

In the future I will continue to use this strategy.  Making sure there is open communication.  Set goals for our group.  I will lead our team into the future.  I will take charge and delegate tasks as needed.

Ethical Situation

At one of my recent jobs, my employer paid part of my wages under the table.  I was told that they did not want to have to pay taxes on all my wages. They paid my medical insurance but I had to work a certain number of hours that would equal my insurance payment.  I could buy things through the business and that would be deducted from the hours worked.  I received a payroll check, but it was very minimal only $600.00 a month.I was working 40 - 50 hours a week.  At the time I felt I had no choice but to go along with the arrangements.  If I had to do it again I would not have gone to work for this company.

What a stressful life

The four main stressors in my life:

  1. My husband is one of my main stress factors at this time.  We are currently going through a divorce. This I hope to be only a short term stress, but I feel it will turn into a long term stress, because there is a lot of things to work out and he is not cooperating.
  2. My children are another part of stress for me.  While going through a divorce the children are greatly affected.  This, in turn, puts a lot of stress on myself, I do not like what the divorce is doing to them.  I believe this will be a long term stress.  I am always going to worry about them.
  3. Financial matters are very stressful to me.  While going through this process of divorce, there is a lot of tug a wars over items.  Who is going to pay what, and why they should have to pay it. Money is tight, when being used to two incomes, and now only having one.  I am hoping this to be a short term stress, I am also hoping to resolve my financial matters in a short time.
  4.  Lack of time is a BIG stress in my life.  I feel there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done.  While attending school, I am also going through the divorce.  We also had a break-in to our warehouse where a lot of our household items were being stored.  About $ 40,000 of items were taken and the insurance wants a list. All I need is to add a few more hours to each day.  This will hopefully be a short term stress.

My Goals

There are four goals that I am currently working towards:

  1. I will get at least a B in all my classes by the end of this semester by studying and doing all my assignments.
  2. I will buy a car by November 1, 2013 by collecting on my insurance policy.
  3. I will loose 10 pounds by December 1, 2013 by eating healthier and exercising.
  4. I will file the appropriate papers for my divorce by October 15, 2013 by downloading the forms from the internet.

Teamwork Powerpoint

"Coming Together Is A Beginning;
Keeping Together Is A Progress;
Working Together Is Success."
By Henry Ford

I really like this quote.  When everyone comes together it is the beginning process.  When everyone stays together it is progress.  When everyone works together it will bring you success.  So basically if we are strong as one, imagine how strong we would be as a team.

In the professional work place, a successful company will work together.  When all parties have open communication and work together, there will be a successful company.

For success, bring everyone together and keep them all working together as one.

Appropriate Business Wear

Both of the men in this picture are in appropriate business wear.  The grey and black slacks can be interchanged with either of the dress shirts.  The colors are not bright and flashy.

The suit in the picture is a nice business suit.  It is not distracting.  The colors black, white and grey are a great choice for the business world.  His appearance is neat and well groomed.
The women in this picture are all wearing different types of suitable business wear.  All of the colors are conservative and not distracting. The style of the outfits would work good in a business setting.  None of the outfits are revealing.
These different outfits are appropriate for the business world because they are conservative.  Bascic Black is a good color for business.  You can take black and interchange it with alot of mild colors.  All the dresses are long enough to at least extend to the knee.

Personal and work characteristics

Personal Characteristics that I need to strengthen are:

  • Time management
  • Openness to change
  • Stress management
Work characteristics that I need to strengthen are:

  •  Reducing clutter
  •  Not eating while I'm working

In this chapter I have learned that there are some areas that I need to improve in.  I have a problem of getting side tracked.  I need to become more open to change.  Because you need to be able to change when different situations arise.  I need to learn to manage my stress.  I get to overwhelmed when following behind in my work.  To save time I eat my lunch at my desk while I am working.  I need to take time out of my schedule to eat my lunch in the break room.  I need get my desk and work area organized and be able to maintain it in an orderly manner.
